Media remote doesnt work at all

Mouse works fine, save the extra 2 dollars though and dont get the media remote, when I hit play/pause it will do one of three things: skip the song Im listening to, shuffle tracks, or shutdown my computer. Rew and ffw do nothing, stop skips the track. Minimize my music app and re-open it and the remote wont respond at all unless i close my music completely and re-open it.
